Great books

Alongside Verve, Tériade published twenty-six illustrated books, known as the Grands Livres or "Great Books," in which the unparalleled combination of text and image gave rise to remarkable works such as Paris Without End by Alberto Giacometti, The Poem of the Right Angle by Le Corbusier, The Circus by Fernand Léger, Jazz by Henri Matisse, Daphnis and Chloe by Longus illustrated by Marc Chagall, and The Song of the Dead by Pierre Reverdy illustrated by Pablo Picasso, among many others.

The Great Books contain original works of art created using the techniques of lithography, woodcut printing, and engraving,

always produced in limited editions, with each copy individually numbered and signed by the artists themselves.

During a pivotal period in art history—from the end of Cubism to the last great painters of the twentieth century—Tériade brought together an entire world of rare intellectual and artistic wealth. He gained international recognition for his role as the driving force behind the unprecedented collaboration between poets and visual artists, as well as for fostering the innovative fusion of word and image.
